Qurbaani in another country

Fatwaa ID: 1268

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته،
Dear muhtaram muftis, I hope this message reaches you in a state of khairiyyah.

Question 1 : If an individual does his qurbani in another country because it will be cheaper , is his qurbani valid/invalid or is it a deduction in thawaab?.

Question 2: If an individual specifically intends to do qurbani in another country to support an organization which distributes the meat to poor, orphans and the destitute community, will his qurbani be valid/invalid or is there a deduction in thawaab?.

Clarification question 2 : this is in the case where the individual is able to do qurbani in his locality .

جزاكم الله خيرا والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. If a financially able person offers his qurbaani in another country solely because it is cheaper, then his qurbaani will still be valid. His rewards would have been more if he did it locally.
  2. The best is to offer qurbaani locally. However, if there is greater benefit in doing it elsewhere, then one may do it there. It is hoped that his reward will be more in such a case as his qurbaani is of greater benefit

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
