Question:
Assalamualaikum wrwb
Regarding zakat,
Is it required for the person receiving zakat at the end to know it is zakat money and from so and so person?
Or as long as we know it is reaching someone deserved it is acceptable? For example we are giving the zakat money to a family member who we trust will give it to a deserving family.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is not necessary for the recipient of zakaah funds to know that he is being assisted with zakaah funds. He may be told that it is a gift. In most cases, this is also advisable. When giving someone charity, it should be done in an honorable and respectful way. The recipient should not feel belittled or low. At the same time, it is your responsibility as the donor to verify or confirm that the recipient is indeed eligible to receive zakaah.
