Rejecting a gift given to the child

Fatwaa ID: 2041

Assalāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh

When gifting for a child, do the parents have a right to reject the gift or must they take care of it for the child?

Jazākumullāhu khayran

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The parents of a child are his/her guardians and representatives. They must do what is in the best interests of the child. If a child receives a gift, then the parents should accept it and keep it or use it for the child. However, if there is a genuine reason to reject the gift, then that will be permissible.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
