Question:
Salam Alaikum. Someone is looking for a wife and one of his requirements is that his wife should not have any friends and should only talk to him. Is this a legitimate requirement from the shariah? JazakAllahu Khair

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

When looking for a potential spouse, one may have his own criteria for determining compatibility. The Shari’ah does not restrict any personal preferences. What may be important or preferred for one may not necessarily be important or relevant to others.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
