Returning to Makkah after visiting Jeddah

Fatwaa ID: 1859

AssalamuAlaikum respected Mufti sahab,
If a traveler (who has already performed umrah and stayed in Makkah for 2-3 days) travels from Makkah to Jeddah for the day and intends to return to Makkah in the evening, for such an individual, is it mandatory to perform umrah since he has exited the boundaries of Makkah (or would a tawaf without ihram suffice)? Also, what would be the miqat for this individual; Masjid Aisha, Al Johafa or Jeddah city itself?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

If a person returns to Makkah from Jeddah, then according to the Hanafi legal school he will have to don the ihraam and perform another umrah. The ihraam will have to be donned from the Haram boundaries or before that.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
