Rights of family members

Fatwaa ID: 1425

A sister asks:

  1. Who has the most haqq on a woman?
  2. How much time should a married woman spend with parents and married siblings?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. Looking for who has the “most” right on a person is not ideal. Rather, one should strive to fulfill everyone’s rights to the best of his/her abilities. Balance and moderation are key points to consider in all cases.
  2. There is no minimum or maximum amount. She should strike a balance and ensure that she spends quality time with everyone. It’s not always about “how much”, but rather “how well”.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
