Sajdah in Riwayah of Warsh and Qalun in Salah and outside

Fatwaa ID: 2268

Question:
Assalam Alaikum. When reading the Riwayah of Warsh and Qalun, we find that there are no sajdahs in Juz Amma marked in those masahif. However, in the Hanafi school, we have learned that there are 14 Sajdah Al Tilawahs in the Qur’an, and they are wajib to be done. So, if reading in Warsh and Qalun in Salah or outside of Salah, would we still need to do these Sajdahs?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, the sujood of tilaawah do not have anything to do with the riwaayah one recites according to, but rather the legal school one follows. There is no difference in the sujood of tilaawah between the Qira’at. When reciting in Warsh or Qaaloon in or out of salaah, you as a Hanafi will perform fourteen sajdah tilaawahs as you have learned.

As for the mus’hafs you are referring to, the sajdah tilaawah markings in them may be in accordance to the Maaliki legal school. They do not regard the sajdahs of the mufassal to be from the emphasized ones.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
