Sajdah Sahw on your own

Fatwaa ID: 942

Question:
asalamualaikum wrwb

if a woman is praying jamaat with her husband at home, and husband makes a mistake in the prayer which requires sajda sahw and he does not do sajda sahw. after he says salaam, can the woman, and any other follwer behind the imam, do sajda sahw on their own?

if yes, would the procedure remain same?
one salaam to right
2 sajdas
tashahud
darood
dua
salaam

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, the place for fardh salaah for the men is in the masjid. We understand that you are enquiring about a situation where the couple are praying nafl in congregation at home. That is permissible.

Nevertheless, if the imaam was supposed to perform Sajdah Sahw but did not do so, then the follower cannot do it on his/her own. If there is time remaining for that salaah, then it should be repeated.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
