Sajdah tilaawah for Qur’anic verse and its translation

Fatwaa ID: 2294

Assalamu’Alaikum Respected Mufti Sahib,
While reading Quran with Urdu Translation, if Sajda Ayat comes, should we do Sajda 2 times (one for reading Arabic verse and one for reading Urdu translation) or 1 time should cover for both?
Jazak Allah.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, it is waajib according to the Hanafi legal school to perform Sajdah Tilaawah if one recites or listens to the translation of a Sajdah verse. If one recites a Sajdah verse and its translation in one sitting, then it will be sufficient to perform one Sajdah Tilaawah only for both, the verse and its translation. He will not have to perform two sajdahs.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
