Saying no to massage request

Fatwaa ID: 409

Asalamualaykum wrwb
Question from someone

Is it wrong to say no to a grandmother (who the family feels might be aroused by females and males even if they’re her own grandkids) When she asks for a massage? She gets upset if they say no. She has been known to to show her Awrah and want ppl to massage areas that one feels uncomfortable doing.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, it is incorrect to assume or accuse her of the above unless you are certain. There could be other reasons or difficulties she is going through. Nevertheless, a person may refuse to give her a massage. They are not obligated to give her a massage, especially if she wants to be massaged on uncomfortable areas. The family may consider getting her a massage chair or something of that nature.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
