Sending children to public school or Christian school

Fatwaa ID: 1870

Question:
Assalamalykum, I live in a western country ,I want to know if a normal state school is best for my child bearing in mind that they teach about Lgbtq+ or a Christian religious school ,where they at moment don’t teach Lgbtq+ .But focus more on the Christian religion

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Children are affected by what they see and hear. Consider homeschooling your children or sending them to appropriate Muslim schools. You should not send them to public/state schools or Christian schools. In most cases, it would actually be haraam to send them to either. If your children’s imaan and beliefs are affected, you will be responsible and accountable. Parents need to be reminded that protection of imaan and values is more important than supposed higher standard of education, if any. Priorities need to be corrected. We often find parents crying and expressing remorse when it is too late.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
