Sharing washer dryers

Fatwaa ID: 2054

In a fully separated but shared living space, is it against haya for non mahram people to share a washer dryer given the impurities found in clothes?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We understand that your question is regarding using the washer/dryer at different times. There is no restriction in that nor is that against the dictates of hayaa. The impurities from one session do not get carried over to the next session. If your question is in regards to people washing their clothing at once at the same time in the same machine, then while that is permissible in itself, it may be more in line with hayaa for the intimate clothing to be washed separately. Here too, the concern of impurities would not be of merit.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
