Shinni on the 15th of Sha’ban

Fatwaa ID: 2135

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Giving shinni on 15th Sha’ban

Is giving food on 15th Sha’ban a bid’a?

If its done on the assumption that its islamic, would it be bid’a?

If it was done with intention to just feed people because of it being a virtuous day, would it be ok?

JazakAllahu Khair

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. It is a bid’ah to give “shinni” or food on the 15th of Sha’baan for the purpose of that day.
  2. Your question is not clear. Anyone providing because of the 15th of Sha’baan would be doing so because they regard it to be Islamic.
  3. The 15th of Sha’baan is not a virtuous day. It has no significance. It is like any other day. The night prior to it however is virtuous. Giving “shinni” or any food on this night because of this night is also a bid’ah.
