Should we look at the ingredients of every single food ?

assalamualaikum I had a question are the chips ahoy cookies halal for us to consume and the scan halal app says it’s halal for us to consume can we trust such app? Should we aslo check the ingredients every single food package wether it’s candy or chips or ice cream etc.

the ingredients contain of the cookies : Unbleached Enriched Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate {Vitamin B1}, Riboflavin {Vitamin B2}, Folic Acid), Semisweet Chocolate Chips (Sugar, Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Dextrose, Milk, Soy Lecithin), Sugar, Canola Oil, Palm Oil, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Leavening (Baking Soda, Ammonium Phosphate), Salt, Artificial Flavor, Caramel Color, Natural Flavor.

  1. We do not provide the service of halaal certification. Kindly refer to your local halaal certification board or ‘ulamaa. Alternatively, you may go through ingredients and reach out to the company for details.
  2. I have found the Scan Halal app to be reliable in most cases provided that the settings are put to “Zabiha”. However, this is not an endorsement nor a recommendation.
  3. Yes. It is necessary to check each and every single ingredient in a product before eating. One drop of haraam jeopardizes the acceptance of ‘ibaadaat and du’aa. Haraam ingredients are easily found in common and simple items. There are many many haraam candies, chips and ice creams. We would like to highlight that uncommon or technical words in the ingredients do not mean halaal. Likewise, just because it sounds halaal, it does not mean its halaal. You must verify them as well.
