Silver plated platinum ring

Fatwaa ID: 1180

asalamualaikum wrwb Respected mufti saab

a man has a ring which is made of platinum as he didnt know the rulings. if he goes to the jeweler and gets it silver plated, would it be allowed for him to wear now?

jazakumullah khair

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

According to the Hanafi legal school, men are only permitted to wear silver or silver plated rings of up to 4.374 grams of silver. A platinum ring alone is not permissible. However, if it is silver plated, then it will be permissible. In the enquired situation, the brother should opt for that.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
