Sponsorship from conventional bank

Fatwaa ID: 1491

Question:
Aas Salam
Is it permissible in Islam to have Sponsorship from Conventional Bank owned by Muslim to Sponsor Community Picnic ( Gender Segrgrated) of Islamic Centre or their participation materially or Financially

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is indeed lamentable that a “Muslim” owns a conventional bank. Does he not fear that he has to stand in front of Allaah Ta’aala and give account? It is surprising how a Muslim can be so bold and wage war against Allaah Ta’aala and His Rasool.

Allaah Ta’aala is Tayyib, Pure, and does not accept anything but that which is pure. Most of the revenues of the bank are haraam and impure. They are unwanted. We do not need them. The Islamic center should not accept anything from them. Furthermore, accepting anything from them will be a promotion of their evil and sin. That is impermissible and those in charge will be sinful for this. The Islamic center in question must distance itself from the bank and its owner. Du’aa should be made for his hidaayah.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
