Question:
Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatahu Mufti saab,
Is it haram to buy any sports apparel like soccer jerseys, football jerseys that has the logo of investment banks like UBS or logo of any sort of industries that are not permissible within Islam?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
A Muslim ought to dress in a dignified manner. He is an ambassador of Islam. He calls others towards good. It does not behoove a Muslim to wear sports jerseys of players and teams. What benefit is there in looking up to these individuals and wearing their jerseys? A person will be raised on the Day of Qiyaamah with those whom he loves.
As for wearing jerseys that have logos of impermissible companies, such as banks, insurance firms, breweries and wineries, that is impermissible. One will be sinful for such advertisements. Aside from these companies, even if permissible, why would you want to give free advertisements to them?
