Assalamualaikum, if I have a step brother who I don’t share either parents with, would he be considered a mahram that I don’t have to wear hijab/stay covered in front of?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
Stepbrothers and stepsisters, i.e., those with whom you do not share a single parent, are non-mahrams. They are no different from a random stranger. Step-siblings are permitted to get married to one another. The laws of hijaab and inter-gender interactions are fully applicable. Leniency in this is not allowed at all. Parents must ensure that full separation and hijaab is in place.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
