Streaming live prayer from the masjid and praying with them from home

Fatwaa ID: 916

Question:
As salaamu alaikum Mufti Saab
My local masjid (5 mins away) has taraweeh prayer. I cannot got because my baby sleeps at that time. Is it permissible for me to stream the prayer live and pray in congregation from my home?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala bless your child and make him the coolness of your eyes.

For the validity of following an imaam in salaah, it is necessary for the follower to be in the same place as him if it is in a masjid, or the lines must be successive if elsewhere. In the enquired situation, this is not found. You cannot stream a live prayer and pray in congregation with them from your house. Your salaah will be invalid. You must perform your own salaah.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
