Stuttering in recitation in salaah

Fatwaa ID: 928

Question:
Assalamu alaykum,

If someone begins to stutter during the surah they are reciting in salah and realise they’ve forgotten the next part, can they stop the recitation mid-way, say bismilla and begin another surah they definitely know and thereafter perform sadja sahw? Or will salah have to be repeated?

Jazakumullah khayr

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. It will be permissible for the person to recite from another place if he forgets the next verse or is unable to continue. There is no need to say bismillah unless it is the beginning of a surah. There is no need to perform Sajdah Sahw at the end. The salaah will be valid.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
