Question:
Assalaamu’alaikum, I would like to know if tahajjud prayers are accepted for those that have qadha prayers left to make up for? This individual has made up a few and is trying to continue to make up those missed prayers insha’Allah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, we cannot comment whether your salaah will be accepted or not. That is something only Allaah Ta’aala can decide. Nevertheless, if a person performs qadhaa salaah at the time of Tahajjud, it is hoped that he will be rewarded for both, qadhaa and Tahajjud.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.

ظَاهِرُ مَا مَرَّ أَنَّ التَّهَجُّدَ لَا يَحْصُلُ إلَّا بِالتَّطَوُّعِ؛ فَلَوْ نَامَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى فَوَائِتَ لَا يُسَمَّى تَهَجُّدًا وَتَرَدَّدَ فِيهِ بَعْضُ الشَّافِعِيَّةِ

قُلْت: وَالظَّاهِرُ أَنَّ تَقْيِيدَهُ بِالتَّطَوُّعِ بِنَاءً عَلَى الْغَالِبِ وَأَنَّهُ يَحْصُلُ بِأَيِّ صَلَاةٍ كَانَتْ لِقَوْلِهِ فِي الْحَدِيثِ الْمَارِّ «وَمَا كَانَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ فَهُوَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ»
