Question:
the question is regarding the sitting period of Iddah. if a man issues 2 then once ur 3 months are over he issues the 3rd. do u sit for another 3 months ?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
At the outset, we wish to clarify that ‘iddah of talaaq is not three months. ‘Iddah of talaaq is three menstrual cycles. If an ex-husband comes after the completion of the ‘iddah and issues an additional talaaq, then that will be in vain and would not have any effect. Similarly, if he issues an additional talaaq towards the end of the ‘iddah, the ‘iddah itself will not be extended. However, depending on the situation, it may have an affect in the application.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
