Taraaweeh in intervals

Fatwaa ID: 944

Question:
A pregnant sister asks,
Sometimes I feel really weak and tired after doing about half of taraweeh. So I pray my witr and go to sleep. Then after sleeping a bit I wake up again to eat (I do this few times throughout the night to be able to fast during the day otherwise it’s very hard because I’m in later stages) and at that time I feel I can pray some more. Whatever I pray then, is that counted as taraweeh or just nafl since it was after witr

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala reward you abundantly and make it easy for you. Your dedication and striving is commendable. Such is the attitude of a believer. May Allaah Ta’aala bless you.

When you perform salaah again afterwards, you should make the intention of Taraaweeh Salaah, until you reach a total of twenty. It will count as such even if you have performed the Witr Salaah earlier. If you are confident that you will wake up later on in the night, it will be better to delay the Witr Salaah until then.

If standing is difficult for you, you may perform your salaah while sitting. Similarly, if it is difficult for you to fast, you may skip them now and make them up afterwards.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
