Tattooing a hairline

Fatwaa ID: 1969

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Would it be permissible for one with receding hair to tattoo a hairline.

جزاكم الله خيرا

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala make it easy for you.

Hair tattoo, or scalp micro pigmentation, is a non-surgical cosmetic tattoo that deposits pigments into the scalp which then replicates or gives the illusion of hair follicles. There is an element of deception in this as well as alteration to the body, both of which are impermissible. This is a cosmetic procedure, not a medical one. Accordingly, it is not permissible to opt for this procedure. You may consult an experienced dermatologist or trichologist for their expert advice.

If there are no solutions, then exercise patience. There are many that suffer from this. Do not let it bother you. Allaah Ta’aala will bless you with good hair in Jannah. Consider sporting the sunnah of a skull cap. It will cover your receding hairline and/or bald spots. The sunnah is beautiful and simple.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
