Temporary nose-job, lip filler, extensions

Fatwaa ID: 1589

Is it permissible to get temporary nose job for beautification for husband? Lip fillers? Or lash extensions? If no Please advise why not.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, a person should be appreciative of his/her natural looks. The natural beauty should be cherished. To attempt to change it, unless there is a genuine defect, is an act of ingratitude. Permanent or semi-permanent cosmetic changes that result in a change in the creation of Allaah Ta’aala are impermissible unless they are for cosmetic reasons. This is aside from the physical harms of many of these changes. Keeping the above principle in mind, the answers to your queries are as follows:

  1. Temporary nose job, or nonsurgical rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure where dermal fillers are used to temporarily change the shape of one’s nose. While this procedure is non-surgical, the effects of it last for about six months. This procedure results in a change of the creation of Allaah Ta’aala as well as partial mutilation of the body. Furthermore, the purpose is to alter the appearance for aesthetic purposes, not for enhancement. Accordingly, such a procedure is impermissible. However, if there is a genuine defect or abnormality, then one will be excused to bring the defect to a normal natural look. The prohibition above is applicable even if the husband wishes or demands otherwise.
  2. It is not permissible to administer or apply lip fillers for the above reason. However, here too, if there is a defect, then one will be excused to use it to bring the lips to a natural look.

In both of the above scenarios, whether it is a defect or not can be enquired from a reliable upright doctor. Furthermore, the doctor should be consulted regarding the health perspective of the injections as well.

  1. Eyelash extensions prevent water from reaching necessary wudhu parts. This would affect the validity of the wudhu and thus the salaah. These extensions tend to stay for weeks. Accordingly, this would be problematic

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
