Time between 18° and 15° Fajr

Fatwaa ID: 945

If we finish suhoor by the earlier Fajr time (18 degrees) and then pray Fajr later (according to the 15 degrees time), can we pray tahajjud in between those 2 times?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, according to the Hanafi legal school, once the time of Fajr comes in, one is only permitted to perform the sunnahs of Fajr and thereafter the fardh. One should not perform any other non-obligatory salaahs. In the enquired situation where one is adopting a cautionary stance, it will be best to engage in other ‘ibaadaat in the interim.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
