Touching private parts and wudhu

Fatwaa ID: 1499

Question:
As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu respected Mufti. My question is: If one touches the private parts intentionally for the purpose of applying medical topical creams does it break ones wudu. Jazakallahu Khair for your time and knowledge.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

According to the Hanafi legal school, touching the private parts, irrespective of purpose, does not invalidate the wudhu. The wudhu remains intact. In the enquired situation, assuming that you follow the Hanafi legal school, your wudhu will not break. If you follow the Shaafi’ee legal school, then your wudhu will break.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
