Question:
Assalaamu’alaikum
A friend of mine has credit card debt but he and his wife are planning to go to umrah. is it permissible for him to go to umrah while he is paying off the debt as monthly payments. Will his umrah be valid if he goes?
JazaakAllahu khairan
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
May Allaah Ta’aala make their journey easy, accept their ‘umrah and make it a means of their hidaayah. As long as he is confident that he will be able to make the monthly payments timeously and the ‘umrah trip will not set him back, it will be permissible for him to go in the enquired situation. However, if he feels that he will be late or he will miss a payment or more due to the journey, then he should not go now.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
