Urinary Incontinence and also bad waswas

Fatwaa ID: 2149

Assalamualaykum please answer all my questions with points. I am a brother with Urinary Incontinence and also bad waswas. My urinary tract is weak so whenever I urinate all the urine does not fully come out and drips for a certain amount of time. I am having very bad thoughts regarding purity of my clothes using public bathrooms. I finished urinating then wrapped with a thick amount of toilet paper, I was in a hurry so I decided to take off the thick amount of toilet paper (the toilet paper eventually falls down my pants so this is a bit difficult) and wrap with a more thinner layer of toilet paper. A bad whisper started after this that the paper wasn’t thick enough and that my pants were impure. What do I do in this situation? If pee were to drip on my underwear would that make my pants impure aswell? (the pants are right over the underwear) Would the underwear protect the pants from being impure. If for example a part of my sweater grazes the toilet seat is my sweater impure? If I wrap my penis with toilet paper to prevent dripping but if after a couple of minutes of me going about my dad the position of the wrap is somewhere else in my pants what do I do? Am I excused for this? Also I have a garment that was a bit long and so after using the bathroom the garment grazed my penis as the urine was dripping and I am sure that the pee got on it. How will I purify this garment without putting it in the washer? Also when I am using the public bathroom the toilet will randomly flush and with the public toilets the toilet water will spray out. Will my clothes be impure if the water gets on them? It is very difficult keeping track of pure and impure garments and this has made my life very miserable.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. It is clear that your are suffering from waswasah. We sympathize with you and make du’aa that Allaah Ta’aala makes it easy for you.

-Understand that waswasah is from the shaytaan. The more you entertain the doubts and thoughts, the more it will increase. You will be giving the shaytaan the upper-hand. Do not let him win.

-Once you are done urinating, you may wrap your private part with some toilet paper. It does not have to be too much or thick. A few pieces will be sufficient.

-If the soiled toilet papers fall off or they touch your clothing, they will not transfer any impurity. Your clothing, which includes your underwear and pants, will remain fully clean and pure.

-Ignore any and all doubts. They are from the shaytaan. Any time such thoughts come, recite a’udhu billaah.

-The default is purity. Thus, if you do not see any physical impurity, then it is clean and pure. Any thought contrary to this must be ignored.

-If urine touches your underwear but you do not see or feel anything on your pants, then your pants are clean. Simply was the soiled portion of the underwear and you would be good to go.

-The toilet seat is pure unless you see physical impurity on it. If your sweater grazes the toilet seat and you do not see any impurity on it, then your sweater is pure.

-Wetness on the seat or elsewhere would be regarded as water, which is pure, unless you are certain that it is urine or some other impurity.

-If impurity touches something, it is sufficient to wash the soiled portion only. There is no need to wash the entire garment.

-Washing one’s clothing in the washer purifies the cloth. It does not render any of it the clothing impure.

-If a public toilet flushes while you are using it, regard yourself to be pure and do not entrain any doubts. It is only water.

-The more you entertain the waswasah, the more difficult it will get. As we advised, ignore them completely. The default is certainty. If you are not certain about an impurity, ignore it.

-We advise you to study “Combating the Whisperings of Shaytaan” by Shaykh Yunus Patel (R).

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
