Fatwaa ID: 370
Salam Mufti Saab,
Is it haram to use credit cards if one doesn’t have the money readily available to pay them off?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
It is permissible to use credit cards provided that one makes timeous payments and avoids interest and late fees. If one does not have sufficient funds at the moment to pay it off but is confident that he will be able pay it off by the due date in full, then it will be permissible for him to use his credit cards for the purchases.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
