Using English Qur’aan during Taraaweeh

Fatwaa ID: 911

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله

Would it be allowed for a person who does not know any Arabic to follow along the imams recitation with an English translation?
For taraweeh specifically
There is an app called Tarteel which listens to your recitation and shows the exact ayat which are being recited as well as the translation, can the person who knows no Arabic use this during taraweeh so that he can understand what is being said?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The above will not be permissible. Doing so will invalidate the salaah. You must remain focused in salaah and listen attentively to the imaam’s recitation, even if you do not understand.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
