Using Islamic nasheed as ringtone

Fatwaa ID: 429

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Are you allowed to use an islamic nasheed as a ringtone?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

While it may be permissible to keep an Islamic nasheed as a ringtone, it would be unadvisable. There is a possibility that the phone may ring whilst in the bathroom and it may be deemed disrespectful, depending on the lyrics. It may also be that you answer the phone while mid-sentence, resulting in the meaning getting changed.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
