Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Are virtual reality products such as those that mimic the deceased permissible to use? Or even the basic virtual reality headsets?
And is it permissible to invest in such businesses that deal with AI?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

1. It is not permissible to use products or apps that mimic the deceased or depict them to be alive.
2. It is permissible to use virtual reality headsets provided that it is being used for something permissible.
3. It would be permissible to invest in businesses that deal with AI in a permissible manner. Obviously, you would have to ensure that the business is observing the general laws and guidelines of Shari’ah.
