Vow to recite Surah Yaseen 1000 times if Pakistan cricket team won a match in the World Cup

Fatwaa ID: 2126

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

When I was around 13 to 14 years old (certain that I was a baligh), I made a vow to recite Surah Yaseen 1000 times if Pakistan cricket team won a match in the World Cup. They did win, but I have not held up my Vow of completing the recitation. An Egyption friend of mine advised me to seek an opinion from a Mufti on the matter, as such Vows should not be made and followed through on.

Please advise as how I shall proceed on the matter.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. You should fulfill your vow and recite Surah Yaseen 1,000 times. In the future, refrain from making such foolish vows, especially in insignificant and futile matters like the above.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
