Question:
Asalaam alaikum wa rehmatullah wa barakatuhu, A friend has sent the above query.
Is getting the Will ready one of the condition before going for Umrah?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Having a will is not a requisite for the validity of one’s ‘umrah or Hajj. In reality, one should always have an updated will document. The will should expressly state that the estate should be distributed in accordance to the Shari’ah laws of inheritance and succession. Likewise, it should outline the assets and related things. It should also state any debts owed or receivable. Death will come to a person at any moment. Hence, it is of utmost importance to have this ready, irrespective of whether one is undertaking a journey or not.
