Question:
Assalamualaikum. There are some scholars that say it’s permissible to watch movies as long as it’s clean. As in nothing haram going on or any nudity. Is this true?

Also is it OK for children to watch cartoons?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

1. There is seldom any movie that does not contain impermissible aspects. This includes music, inappropriate dressing, inappropriate usage of words, violence, etc. Inappropriate dressing is not restricted to western nudity; it includes non-hijaab as well. Likewise, the ideologies and values pushed in most movies are contrary to Islamic values. You will barely find any movie that is permissible. The same goes for TV shows.
2. Cartoons have music. Cartoons nowadays are filled with filthy ideologies and notions that are unIslamic. Furthermore, the negatives of children watching cartoon are well known and accepted. Raise your children in an appropriate environment. They are affected by what they see and hear from a young tender age.
