Fatwaa ID: 1476

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته..
Hope you are in the Best state of Health & Imān Dearest Mufti Saab..

Can a shia bohri following sect who has reverted to sunni sect pray with their Rida clothing (type of abaya for Bohra women specifically)?
Will her salāh be accepted?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is pleasing to note the sister in question’s acceptance of Islam. May Allaah Ta’aala keep her steadfast upon the Deen and make it easy for her.

As Muslims, we are sensitive to our values. We do not imitate or follow non-Muslims, especially in matters that are exclusive or symbolic to their religion. The Rida is the religious garb of the Bohra woman. Accordingly, it is not permissible for Muslim women to wear the Bohra Rida in any condition, salaah or otherwise. The sister in question should dispose of the above garments or use them for something else.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
