Question:
Assalaamu alaikum sheikh, does this mean if you wear a functioning watch but intend it only for fashion then it’s impermissible?

^ for example if I don’t even look at the watch at all for time, I look at my phone for the time

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, it is not permissible for men to wear bracelets. A watch is excluded from that because it serves a genuine purpose other than fashion, and that is to tell time. Thus, if one wears a watch solely for fashion and not to benefit from the intended purpose of a watch, then the exclusion would not be extended to him. It will not be permissible for him to wear a watch in such a case.
