Question:
AssalamuAlaikum when does Nifas start?
If my water breaks, does Nifas begin and I do not pray/recite Quran during labor and birth?
I am 9 months pregnant Alhamdulillah about to give birth any day now InshaAllah.
If Mufti Sahab can please provide a booklet or some miscellaneous rulings regarding Nifas and childbirth I would appreciate it very much.
Jazakallah Khair
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
May Allaah Ta’aala make it easy for you and grant you a righteous child who will be the coolness of your eyes.
Nifaas will commence when half of the baby comes out. The nifaas will remain until the bleeding/spotting stops, up to forty days according to the Hanafi legal school. If the bleeding exceeds forty days, then the bleeding after forty days will be regarded as istihaadhah.
