When to teach children about Qaum Lut and our values

Fatwaa ID: 1280

Question:
Salaam,

What is a good age to teach my son and daughter about the story of Qaum Lut so that I can teach them about the prohibition of homosexualism?

JazakAllah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Your desire to raise your children with Islamic values is commendable. May Allaah Ta’aala bless you and your children.

In general situations, the teaching of such topics that are otherwise regarded to be for a mature and understanding mind are delayed until the child is able to comprehend such matters. However, in our degenerate societies where preschoolers or even younger children are being fed and brainwashed with such filth and immorality, it is necessary to counter that and ensure that our children learn from us first. It is necessary that we nurture them and bring them up with Islamic values and morals, such that when they come across the immoral narrative, they do not question their own values nor feel intimidated.

Start with them from a young age, as early as possible. Be cognizant and conscious of what they are doing and studying. If you are sending them to school, pay attention to every aspect of them. Continue to make du’aa and seek assistance from Allaah Ta’aala.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
