Where to spend iddah if couple didn’t have a place

Fatwaa ID: 2371

Salam my question is about idatt

where can a woman stay the 4 months and ten days when they were staying 4 months at each relatives home . He got sick in one city and was taken to another city for home hospice and passed there.
where should she do her idat. First city they stayed was her mother and brothers home second city was her daughters. Please help us with your knowledge as she is very stressed and wants to do the right thing .

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We present our heartfelt condolences. May Allaah Ta’aala shower upon the deceased with His infinite mercy and grace and admit him into Jannatul Firdaws. May He grant sabr jameel to the wife and the family.

We understand from the query that the couple did not have a marital home. Rather, they were living with different relatives from time to time. They did not have a permanent residence. The widow should thus identify the closest safe place with a mahram, preferably her father’s place if feasible, and spend her ‘iddah there.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
