Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Is wearing a white dress for wedding tashabbuh bil kuffaar? The bride didn’t restrict herself to it and considered other colours but ended up preferring a white one.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

I was unable to find any substantial evidence that white wedding dresses are associated to any religious tradition. It is worn by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It is thus permissible to wear a white dress for one’s wedding. However, it should be noted that it must not be extravagant; that is impermissible. Likewise, it must be modest and covering of one’s ‘awrah.
