Question:
Is there any problem in listening to Quran with white noise in the background (ex. Rain sounds, wind, fan noise)?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
When listening to the Qur’aan, we are commanded to do so with our complete undivided attention. Likewise, we are commanded to ponder and reflect over the verses being recited. Listening to something else at the moment or having a white noise playing in the background is contrary to this and rather prevents one from fulfilling the above obligations. Furthermore, voluntarily playing such noises may be seen as raising a voice over the Qur’aan, which is deemed disrespectful. Accordingly, one should not voluntarily listen to anything else when listening to the Qur’aan.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
