Working 2 full-time jobs

Fatwaa ID: 1387

Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Mufti sahab is it permissible for a person to work 2 full time jobs?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, a person should maintain a balance in his life. He should ensure that he dedicates time for his spiritual upliftment, for his family, for his personal growth and other things that are essentials. Not maintaining a balance will result in not fulfilling the rights of the other avenues. This life is not for hustling the material things. Unless a person is in financial difficulties, it is unadvisable to work two full-time jobs.

You have not provided details regarding the two jobs in question. Hereunder is a general guideline. You may revert with details if you require further information. In a case where a person works two full-time jobs, he must ensure that he is fulfilling the rights of both jobs. One should not result in deficiency in the fulfillment of the other. If both jobs are at the same time, then one should make sure that this is not in violation of the terms and conditions of either. Many jobs are paid by the hour. Working two jobs at the same time in such a case would not be permissible.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
