Wrist is from the awrah of a woman

Fatwaa ID: 846

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

My school posted some group photos and in one of them a little bit of my wrist was accidentally showing. Do I have to ask my school to remove the photo or will it be excused since it’s just a little bit and I’m not the main focus in the picture?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala reward you for being meticulous and Allaah-conscious in a time where most are careless.

The wrist of a woman is from her ‘awrah and must be covered from non-mahrams and non-Muslims. Accordingly, in the enquired situation, you must ask your school to edit or remove that photo. The ‘awrah must remain covered, irrespective of whether it is the main focus or otherwise.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
