Wudhu and lip balm

Fatwaa ID: 1702

Question:
Assalam U Alaikum.
Would wudu be invalidated if I apply a lip balm white white soft paraffin?
It is said to be insoluble in water. But since its an insignificant amount would it be okay?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The application of lip balm on one’s lips does not invalidate the wudhu. As for the validity of wudhu on or over it, that will be depend on the permeability of the balm. If water is able to reach the lips below it, then wudhu will be valid. If it is unable to reach the lips, then the wudhu will be invalid. You may refer to the manufacturer to determine this.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
