Wudhu friendly socks at home

Fatwaa ID: 1958

Question:
Assalamualaikum, the following question is for my mom:

I was prescribed to wear compression socks that start mid-thigh and reach below my ankles to the middle of my foot for medical conditions. Wearing these socks makes it hard for me to make wudu as it is hard to take them off. Is it permissible for me to wear wudu friendly socks over the compression socks at the beginning of the day and do mas’h over them everytime I make wudu even though I am at home?

For people without any medical conditions, are they allowed to wear wudu friendly socks at home when water is accessible?
Jazakallahu Khairan

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala grant your mother complete shifaa and make it easy for her.

  1. It is permissible to wear wudhu friendly socks over compression socks and thereafter make mas’h over the wudhu friendly socks.
  2. One may wipe over wudhu friendly socks even if he is in the comforts of his home with easy access to water. This is irrespective of whether he has a medical condition or not. A resident is permitted to wipe over wudhu friendly socks for upto a day and a night at a time. Thereafter, he will have to wash and then he may continue wiping once again.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
