You are like my mother

Fatwaa ID: 1275

Assalamu aalykum ww
If a husband says to his wife as a jokes you are like my mother when she wear something or as a joke, does that effect the marriage?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The statement “You are like my mother” does not constitute or effect anything unless the husband intends thereby talaaq or zihaar. Based on the details of the query, the marriage is intact.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
