Zakaah on vehicles used for business

Fatwaa ID: 804

Question:
Also is zakah fardh on vehicles used for a business. Eg. delivery goods from city to city

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Cars used for business such as delivery cars are not subject to zakaah. The income therefrom however will be treated like any other income and thus will be subject to zakaah if it remains in one’s ownership on one’s annual zakaah date. Cars will only be subject to zakaah if one purchased them with the intention of resale. In all other cases, there is no zakaah on one’s cars and vehicles.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
