Question:
As salaamu alaikum
A person gave his zakaat in cash/kind to an organisation to distribute. The organisation was subsequently robbed of that cash/goods. What is the status of the person’s zakaat?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
We take note of the details of your query. The organization is a representative/wakeel of the donor. The donor’s zakaah would only be considered paid once it reaches the hands of the eligible recipients in full. Accordingly, the zakaah is pending. The donor must pay his zakaah again. As for the organization, if there was negligence from their side, then they will be responsible to reimburse the funds.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
